I am currently working on formulating a research project which would look at radical and utopian political investments in the practice of science starting with the late 19th century and continuing
up to the present, hopefully arriving at some historical/philosophical basis for assessing the current politicization of science as well as
the prospects of mobilizing science as a force for the radical transformation of society.

Introduction : John Duda

Academically, I'm between institutional affliations at the moment, having just finished a Master's degree(in philosophy, of little practical political relevance) and having not yet found a PhD position. I am currently working on formulating a research project
which would look at radical and utopian political investments in the practice of science starting with the late 19th century and continuing up to the present, hopefully arriving at some historical/philosophical basis for assesing the current politicization of science as well as
the prospects of mobilizing science as a force for the radical transformation of society.

I'm hoping that this list will generate many fruitful interchanges, and I am especially interested to learn how others have found ways to combine their political convictions with their academic interests, and
whether this has been through existing institutions or through new institutions or networks.

Regarding activism, most of the work I've been doing recently can be filed under "tech support for the revolution". I am a member of the ASCII computer activist collective in Amsterdam, and a developer of
Indymedia software. I'm also part of the collective that operates the server that this mailing list is being run on, and have set up this website
